In the spring of 2019, The FruitGuys decided to rebuild their website with accessibility in mind. Website accessibility involves taking steps to ensure your website content, and functionality, is available to anyone regardless of impairments or disabilities. To accomplish this a great deal of work is required in the areas of web content and web development.
The FruitGuys website content was migrated into the WordPress content management system from Drupal. We surveyed all of the web content and worked with a team of editors to bring the content into alignment with the web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG). Simultaneously the new WordPress website was being developed on MIGHTYminnow’s accessible base theme Trestle. Special development attention was given to keyboard navigation functionality, the application of aria labels, screenreader text and overall accessibility. The FruitGuys and MIGHTYminnow then partnered with WebAIM to evaluate the new site and certify conformance with WCAG Level A and AA.
This project was a great opportunity to do valuable client work and further deepen our knowledge of website accessibility through the evaluation phase provided by WebAIM.
The new website launch was successful and we are proud to hold certificates of conformance for three FruitGuys web properties. We look forward to continuing our work with The FruitGuys and look forward to an exciting phase of design work in the near future.
